“And when something awful happens, the goodness stands out even more”
― Banana Yoshimoto, The LakeSanta Rosa Contra Dance – Fire Relief Fundraiser
Friday, October 20 at Monroe Hall in Santa RosaTime to unleash the healing and helping power of the North Bay dance community. Like Doug Plummer’s evocative photo, it’s time to reach out, join hands together, share community, and support those whose lives were turned upside-down by this week’s fires. We can’t forget for a moment what we and our friends have been through, but we can continue to dance and be Sonoma Strong by attending this fundraising dance. Our band includes three of the most talented musicians in Northern California: Ben Schreiber (fiddle), Chris Knepper (fiddle, mandolin), and Will Wheeler (guitar, feet). Our caller is Chuck Galt from Petaluma, a well-known caller throughout California.
NBCDS is sponsoring this Friday night’s Santa Rosa contra dance as a fundraiser for fire relief. We are underwriting the talents’ fees, there is no fixed admission price, and all dancer contributions are being donated to the Redwood Credit Union/Press Democrat/Mike McGuire Fire Relief Fund. If you are a fire victim or first responder, come dance for free. For the rest of us, pay what you can but be generous as NBCDS will match all dance proceeds.
If you plan to use a check, make it payable to RCU Community Fund. Include “2017 North Bay Fire Relief” in memo area, along with which county (or “All”) you’d like to support. https://www.redwoodcu.org/northbayfirerelief
Gather at 7:30 p.m. to talk or to get a free lesson if you have never danced before. The dance runs from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m.
SOUND: Carlo Calabi
DANCE MANAGER: Paul Larkin
Bring you water bottles, a snack to share if you can, but please leave your scents at home. See you on the dance floor!
